For bluewater cruisers, and those wanting to bluewater cruise, the Shannon brand is often on the short list of highly desirable vessels. This 1980 Shannon 38 ketch (cutter rigged) is fit and ready to go.

The Shannon 38 is a rugged long-range offshore sailing yacht while still being an excellent coastal cruiser. Features have been incorporated into the design and construction of Shannon to create seaworthiness, comfort, and speed in all wind and sea conditions. This catch rig provides some of the most versatility of any modern rig for varied wind and sea conditions.

The interior of this particular Shannon 38 is finished in a warm satin finish teak that provides a homie and comforting feeling when enjoying the cabin.

Starting forward there is a large double V-berth with shelving to port and starboard and drawers below. It has access to the chain locker at the forepeak.

Moving aft, there is a handing locker and storage cabinet to port and a head with teak accents, toilet, sink, and hot and cold water shower with teak great to starboard.

The main salon is spacious and comfortable with a folding table center midship, a double pull-out settee to starboard, and a port side pilot berth. The table is teak with drop leaves and rails to keep items in place when at sea.

Aft on the port side is a hanging locker and storage cabinet followed by the NAV station and a quarter berth.

On the starboard side is the U-shaped galley with a gimbaled three burner propane stove with oven and broiler, and a deep double stainless steel sink.

Electronics and navigation included a NEMA 2000 backbone, a Garmin GPS Map 1243 MFD chartplotter (2024), a Garmin 24 solid-state radar (2023), Data marine depth gauge, Raymarine i50 & i60 speed, wind and depth gauges (2023), autopilot, VHF radio, and four-speaker stereo system.

The electric system includes one 110w solar panel with MPPT controller (2023), a Freedom SW 2000 inverter / charger, and four deep cell marine batteries (3 house, 1 start).

When not under sail, the boat is powered by a 40 HP Perkins 4108 Diesel engine with 3823 hours on it. She has a new transmission (2024) and carries 65 gallons of fuel.

Her stainless steel standing running is less than 10 years old and she has new stainless steel chain plates replaced in 2023. Her sail inventory includes a 110% Genoa, (2020), Staysail (2016), Mainsail (2015), Mizzen sale (2020), and a 140% Reacher that was new in 2020 and has never been used.

Also included is an Asymmetrical spinnaker with continuous line furler and bowsprit extension that was new in 2020 and only used twice. There is also an older Mizzen staysail (1986), and a storm trisail that was new in 1981 but has never been used.

Ground tackle includes a 44 lb Bruce on 150 ft of 3/8 chain.

Also included in the sale of this vessel is a 2010 Frankfort Boat Works 7'6 fiberglass dinghy and a Suzuki 2.5 HP outboard engine.

Other items of note but not previously mentioned are a Monitor Windvane system, a watermaker installed in 2023, a portable refrigerator / freezer unit that operates off of 12V or 110V, and a hot & cold fresh water shower in the cockpit.

This is a very nice 1980 Shannon 38 Ketch that is a bring your toothbrush and jammies and throw off the lines boat. She is ready to take you on your next (or first) great adventure starting now!
